A new gooseneck, dump trailer or truck bed is one of the bigger purchases most Montana families and businesses make. The trailer you pick matters, but so does how you pay for it.
At H&H Fabrication and Trailer Repair in East Helena, we offer two financing paths. Personal financing goes through Sheffield Financial. Business financing goes through First Pacific Funding. Both can get you hauling sooner, but they work differently, check different credit, and fit different buyers.
Here's how each one works, who it's built for, and how to tell which is right for your next trailer.
Personal financing through Sheffield
Personal financing is a loan in your own name. Sheffield Financial looks at your personal credit history and income to decide on approval, rate and term. Sheffield offers competitive interest rates and flexible loan terms.
The best part: you can see if you prequalify with no impact to your credit. That lets you check where you stand before you commit to a trailer.
Personal financing is a good fit if you're:
Buying a trailer mostly for personal or recreational use: hauling a side-by-side, a car, rafts or camping gear
A horse owner or hobby farmer hauling for yourself
A first-time trailer buyer who wants a simple application
Upgrading your pickup with a new flatbed or hauler bed from our truck bed lineup
What to keep in mind:
The loan shows up on your personal credit report.
Your income and existing debt affect how much you can borrow.
A trailer used personally doesn't come with the business tax deductions covered below.
Business financing through First Pacific Funding
Business financing is a loan made to your company for equipment it uses to earn money. First Pacific Funding reviews your business: how long you've operated, your revenue, and your business credit. Newer businesses and sole proprietors may also be asked for a personal guarantee.
The application usually asks for more than a personal loan does. Have your business name and EIN, business bank statements and recent tax returns ready.
Business financing is a good fit if you're:
A contractor, excavator or landscaper hauling equipment and materials, often with one of our dump trailers
A ranch or farm operation moving livestock, hay or machinery
A business buying a heavy-duty gooseneck trailer for daily work
Adding trailers or truck beds to a fleet
Why businesses choose it:
It keeps business debt off your personal finances and helps build business credit.
Payments can be planned around how the trailer earns its keep.
Equipment used for business may qualify for tax deductions like Section 179 (see the tax note below).
Personal vs. business financing at a glance
Plenty of Montana buyers fall somewhere in between. A few common cases:
Work trailer during the week, play trailer on weekends. Think about how the trailer will be used most of the time. For tax purposes, Section 179 generally requires more than 50% business use.
Brand-new LLC or side business. Without much business history, a lender may lean on your personal credit or ask for a personal guarantee. Personal financing can be the simpler route while your business builds credit.
Sole proprietor. You can apply for business financing, but expect your personal credit to be part of the picture.
Quick decision guide:
Mostly personal use, want a simple application → personal financing through Sheffield
Trailer earns money for your business, and you have business records → business financing through First Pacific Funding
Still unsure → call our team and we'll talk it through
A quick tax note for business buyers
Trailers and truck beds used in a business are often treated as equipment. That can make them eligible for the Section 179 deduction or bonus depreciation, even when the purchase is financed, as long as the equipment is placed in service during the tax year. For 2026, the Section 179 limit is $2.5 million.
H&H Fabrication doesn't provide tax advice. Talk with your CPA or tax advisor about how these rules apply to your business.

Frequently asked questions
Can I prequalify without hurting my credit? Yes. Sheffield's personal prequalification has no impact on your credit.
Do I need an LLC to get business financing? Not necessarily. Sole proprietors can apply, but your personal credit will likely be considered too.
Can I finance a truck bed, not just a trailer? Yes. Ask our team which financing option fits your truck bed purchase.
Which option is better for a gooseneck trailer? It depends on how you'll use it. If it hauls for your business, start with First Pacific Funding. If it's mostly personal, start with Sheffield.
Can financed equipment still qualify for Section 179? Generally yes, if it's used more than 50% for business and placed in service that tax year. Confirm with your tax advisor.
